2001-2002 Girls Volleyball Team

S.H.S. Volleyball is in a rebuilding year after losing 6 Seniors to graduation. Although this is a rebuilding phase, a strong group of J.V. players will allow the Lady Indians to recover quickly and be in contention for a top spot in the Bay Rivers District. Now to feature each of the Lady Indians players.

Amber Copeland - # 16 - Sr. - Middle Back/Outside Hitter
Amber is a 3 year starter on Varsity and brings a lot of hustle and experience to the 2001-2002 team. She has an excellent serve and a quiet demeanor that explodes when she gets the opportunity to hit. Amber's passing skills are superior and the Indians expect lots of leadership and hustle from her game.

Tiffany Holden - # 14 - Sr. - Middle Back/Defensive Specialist
Tiffany is small, but tenacious. Her super serving surprises most people, but her passing and hustle is superior. She lives by the motto, "Nothing hits the floor." Tiffany is a true asset to this years volleyball team.

Samantha Pope - # 22 - Sr.
Samantha is expected to add a lot to this years team as a setter. She has been working very hard to be the primary setter and should provide much needed direction for this team. Samantha has worked on her serves and they should prove to be useful.

Chelsea Butterfield - # 18 - Sr.
Chelsea will be an all-around player this year. Her serves have improved and her passing skills are excellent. She hustles and covers with great skill. Chelsea will also be called upon to do some setting when needed.

Ashley Maddrey - # 33 - Jr.
Ashley possesses the height that many of us desire. Ashley has been working hard to be a great middle hitter. While working on this, we have discovered that she is a good outside hitter and server. Her passing skills may get her lots of playing time on the back line even though she is 6'3" tall.

Ashley Atkinson - # 9 - Jr.
Ashley will be one of our main setters and an outside hitter. Although she is small, she has the heart of a giant. Her hustle and determination will add the spark we need to push our game to the next level. Ashley joins Tiffany in the motto, "Nothing hits the floor." We look forward to Ashley's hustle and leadership and to seeing her excellent air time in her hitting endeavors.

Amanda Rawls - # 20 - Jr.
Amanda is coming up from J.V. and is ready to face the task of Outside Hitter/ Middle Hitter. Her game has matured a lot and she is anxious to have the ball set to her. Her serves are awesome and she should prove to be a big asset for Varsity. Her passing and digging skills will also prove valuable.

Iris Stephenson - # 21 - Jr.
Iris played J.V. last year and should add a lot to Varsity. She has excellent passing skills and her serves can be deadly. She is also filling in as an alternate setter so she will be busy helping the Lady Indians put a winning effort on the floor. Iris is a good back line hitter and should prove useful in this role.

Starry Moore - # 24 - Jr.
Starry is also coming up from J.V. and should be a big help with hitting and blocking. Starry is a Middle Hitter/ Outside Hitter. Her up time is unbelievable and she will hang with the best hitting and blocking. Starry has an awesome serve and should be a huge asset. She has a hitters mentality and therefore, gets to touch the ball a lot on the front line.

Sara Johnson - # 12 - Soph.
Sara played J.V. last year, but her skills have improved a great deal and she should be a big help to Varsity this year on the front line. She has good blocking skills and her hitting skills are improving daily. Her best asset at the moment might be her serve. She has a lot of power and variation in her serve and this will help the team.

Stephanie Anderson - # 10 - Soph.
Stephanie is a newcomer to volleyball, but not a newcomer to sports. Her true athletic talent has helped her pick up volleyball skills rapidly and she will be a big asset to this team. She has an excellent serve and very good passing skills. She is learning quickly to be a hitter and shows great promise as a setter. Stephanie's hustle will contribute greatly to our winning efforts.
